The Game
Redneck Deer Huntin' was a follow-on title to the Redneck Rampage series, and uses the same game engine. You can hunt wild boar, turkey and ducks in the game as well as deer. Like other hunting simulations on the market, you have a variety of weapons and hunting areas to choose from, a shooting range with still and moving targets is also provided so you can sharpen your skills. The hunting areas include: Lake Swampy (duck hunting), Sagebrush Flats (deer and turkey), Ozark Forest (deer, turkey and wild boar) and Snowbush Ridge (deer). One of the neatest features of the game is being able to stalk deer by their tracks left in the snow in Snowbush Ridge.
Once you have chosen the area you pick your weapon: .44 magnum revolver, .30-06 rifle (with or without scope), shotgun or crossbow. Each weapon has its choice of two types of ammunition and you must load the appropriate type for the game you are hunting. After selecting your weapon, you are taken to the hunting area. Instead of choosing points on an overhead map, such as in Deer Hunter, you must navigate your way through a 3D rendered forest taking care not to step on twigs which will snap and alert animals to your presence. You must manually load and reload your weapon, using the appropriate ammunition. If you get too close to the animal, it will hear you and be spooked. You take aim using a set of cross hairs superimposed in the distance you can take as many animals as you want in each hunt, instead of the hunt ending after each kill. After you exit the area any kills you have made are recorded in the Redneck Trophy Room.
